On 14 July 2017, LIC and LCASP CPMU organised a review workshop for the outputs of the first 6 months and the work plan for the last 6 months of 2017 in Thiên Cầm, Hà Tĩnh. Participants from CPMU include Mr. Nguyễn Thế Hinh, LCASP Project Director and various heads of divisions and project staff. Participants from LIC include Mr. Manohar, Team Leader, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Bộ, Deputy Team Leader, Mr. Bùi Bá Bổng, former Vice Minister of MARD and all LIC specialists and Provincial Coordinators. Representatives from Hà Tĩnh PPMU also attended the workshop.

The workshop focused on discussion of technical issues that need LIC support, including: (i) Overcoming overloading problem of small scale biogas plants; (ii) Full utilisation of biogas; (iii) Production of livestock waste from organic fertiliser at farm scale (including medium and large-scale farms).

Mr. Nguyễn Thế Hinh, Project Director, requested LIC to support PPMUs to develop specific models covering the above 3 issues so that they can be implemented soon. The model for dealing with overloading of SBPs should be tailor made to the medium size livestock households (from 50 - 500 pigs), the solutions for full utilisation of biogas should be aimed at households registered for MBPs under the project, the technology for composting livestock waste should be aimed at the households using pigs bathing tanks, using sedimenting technology to reduce pollution to the environment. The models should be scientifically justified, suitable to specific condition of the households.

Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Hoan, Director of Hà Tĩnh PPMU, expected that LIC would support the province to develop practical models which are applicable and at reasonable costs. LIC are requested to avoid theoretical and unrealistic proposals.

Mr. Manohar expressed his sincere thanks to the support from APMB, CPMU and PPMUs and promised to spend more effort to meet the expectation of PPMUs in particular and the livestock sector in general.
